Description
Complete coral encrusted Spanish Olive Jar recovered from a spanish galleon off Vera Cruz Mexico. In the early 1960s,Rafael Santisteban worked as a pilot boat captain and salvage diver out of Vera Cruz Harbor.. He discovered the 17th galleon just a few miles out from the harbor. Mexico's laws (like ours) were very loose in those days when it came to shipwrecks and their ownership,so Santisteban and his friends recovered many artifacts over the following months. Some coins and a few jewelry pieces were found but the motherlode was several olive jars Types 1, II, and III. Many were intact as this one is. No cracks or repairs. The galleon was undoubtedly coming into port empty to be loaded with gold and silver from the mines.I was fortunate enough to purchase 3 of them from Mr. Santisteban. I may sell one more after this.
Authentic shipwreck olive jars are rarer than rare. I guarantee this to be authentic for life!
