ORIGINAL "POPEYE THE SAILOR" IMPERSONATOR PHOTOGRAPH
- 1930s unmarked. 6.5" x 8.5". Glossy black & white.
We offer a great candid photo of a rather eccentric fellow with a striking resemblance to the Popeye comic strip/cartoon character.
Popeye impersonators were quite the novelty ever since the character's inception (especially in the 1930s).
This Popeye incarnation is notable for his flipper feet, bulging arm pads, & assortment of chest medal decorations. This impersonator (name & identity unknown) appears to be in a outdoor social gathering of unknown origin.
Image is sharp and clear (first generation, not a reproduction). A uncommon original POPEYE THE SAILOR photo with outstanding eye appeal.
Condition is considered GOOD to FAIR with moderate surface/stain/edge wear. Moderate surface creasing with two border tears (not in image, largest being approx. 7/8").
Overall, we feel this photo is still in very displayable condition by most standards (see photos).
