Description
This is an antique, purely decorative electric fireplace from the early 20th
century (I have two that match).
It is made of cast iron with a flashed copper finish.
The backing is copper as are the rings that surround each socket.
The casting is intricate and shows one happy and one grimacing monk face in deep relief flanking either side of this piece.
It is not marked, but is very similar to a monk chandelier that was manufactured by Biddle-Gaumer which was an obscure lighting company in Philadelphia.
They were only in business from 1912-1918 so the timing makes sense.
This piece was taken apart, carefully cleaned, rewired and then reassembled so is ready to use.
It could be recessed into an opening so it would sit flat against a wall (or not).
Overall dimensions are 30 5/8”w x 30 3/8”h x 4 ½”d.
The housing is fabricated of steel and has been sprayed a flat back.
This fireplace plugs into an outlet and has the original push button switch on the top right side.
It is shown with 25 watt flame bulbs which is about the max wattage for this piece.
Would be a cool accent to your Craftsman décor and an amazing conversation piece!
