Antique Sphinx Gilt Bronze Louis XV Styled Chenets / Fire Dogs French Rococo - 2

Description

This is for an Antique 19th Century Pair of Sphinx French Louis XV styled Gold Fireplace Chenets / Fire dogs.  These European pieces are Gilt Bronze in the form of a sphinx (or sphynx which are mythological creatures with the body of a lion and the head of a human and were important images in Egyptian and Greek Art and legends). There is also another face on the larger bottom piece with intricate starburst pattern around it.
The Solid bronze sphinx was formed separately and then applied to the bottom piece.  There are original screws, or connection pieces and looks as a screw was added at some point to hold them together.
The wear is consistent with age and use and missing what I believe would have been a connection bar between the two piece, and over time was lost.
These are Very heavy as the Sphynx is Solid Bronze, weighing 21 lbs total.  These are so unusual and wonderful to use as decorative objects or book ends or statues on perhaps a mantle.  The pieces each measure: 12 inches tall x 9 inches wide x 3.75 inches deep.

Majority of my items for sale are pre-loved treasures that were most likely purchased at a local Estate Sale or a local resale shop in Arizona.  I may or may not know details but do spend time researching information to provide details the best I can and to pass along fair prices.

I do Not except returns or exchanges unless I erroneously forgot to declare a Major flaw. Remember most items will show wear.
Assume items are preloved and or vintage and such can have its own idiosyncrasies due to age alone and normal wear and tear. Remember vintage items have been used and will have small issues like surface scratches and age appropriate wear. I will show any major issues in my pictures as they are part of the description.

If an item is damaged in shipping you agree to hold onto the item, box and packing materials until the claim is processed and I will need you to take any necessary pictures to file with the carrier.

thus your item maybe packed in a previously used box and/or wrapped with previously used materials.
