    Description

    Antique Wooden Shipwright's Tool Chest
    15.5 inches H x 31.5 inches W x 7 inches D plus a 3 inch leather handle
Handmade antique wooden shipwright's chest with original leather handle, heavy brass fittings, a hinged side lid, and two drawers. Three inscriptions are carved into the inside center panel: 1) Scripted initials "TC" (presumably the maker and shipwright), 2) an anchor with a serpentine line, and 3) a pair of crossed axes.
The patina on the chest has all the beauty and character of a well-used, well-loved item. Dove-tail joints. Dutchman's patch inserted near the handle. Drawers slide easily. One modern repair can be seen in Photo #10, showing two nuts and bolts protruding into the interior. Acquired at the Maxwell Street market in Chicago, Illinois, it was probably the proud possession of one of the many Great Lakes shipwrights when commerce on the lakes was in its heyday. Easily early 20th Century, possibly late 19th Century.
Domestic shipping to the contiguous US only. No returns, except for eBay's return policy. Please review photos and/or contact seller with any questions. Thank you.
