Description
A collection of two pairs of dividers for maritim, navigational or chart uses :-a quite rare example of a brass and steel maritim/navigational pair of dividers or singled-handed dividers. We can date the instrument from circa 1840-1850. We find unusual thin steel examples of this kind of instruments or 20th century examples.
“The legs of the instrument comprise a semi-circular section and a straight section tapered to a point. The dividers could be opened with a single hand by applying finger pressure to the curved section. Used in navigation to plot routes on sea charts”
The instrument measures 17,5 cm lenght and it is in excellent condition.
-A mid-19th century three-legged dividers in brass and steel used to transfer onto a map the positions of places taken on a globe, by measuring the distances between three points or also it was also used to reproduce drawings or maps to scale.
The instrument measures 16 cm lenght.
