Description
The Javanese Magic Coin. This coin is similar to the coin mentioned in the coin book/coin catalog "Magic Coins of Java, Bali and Malay Peninsula" by Joe Cribb, collection No. 111c. For your information, most of the coins in this book/catalogue are in the collection of the British Museum, dating back to Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles. Raffles has collected these coins during his period of office in Java from 1811 to 1816. On his return to England in 1817 he published a selection of them in his famous book "History of Java".
Information about this coin (Coin no. 111c according to Joe Cribb's book), is as follows:
a. Front side: Tree above hole; male servant standing
on left; noble man kneeling on right; rice cone and water
pot below hole
b. Back side : Tree, jar and water pot above hole; thread winder, twist of thread, tray holding rice cones (2) noble
woman standing on right; spinning wheel below hole
This coins has diameter of 34mm and weight 17.50grm, material bronze
