Description
Incredibly rare grappling anchor recovered by professional divers working as sub contractors on the Mel Fisher lease. This was used by Spanish salvors who were sent back to Florida to recover the millions of dollars in gold and silver that was lost when the fleet of galleons were decimated by a hurricane. It was found in the location of the Cabin Wreck. It's a massive piece(pictures don't do justice) as it stands over 5 ft tall and weighs over 100 pounds. On of the prongs is snapped off presumably after hooking the sunken galleon. The salvors drag this anchor along the bottom to find submerged wreckage. Once located, they would free dive to the location and recover what they could.
It comes with a Letter of Authenticity signed by Mike Blanchard of Maritime Antiquities and Shipwreck Treasures. I have a few a few smaller pieces pieces from this wreck as well. I also have 3 intact 17th century Spanish olive jars recovered from a wreck off Vera Cruz,Mexico. (Shown in last photo) The grappling anchor will be local pickup only unless buyer makes own arrangement for delivery. Thanks for looking and Good Luck!
