Own an authentic and RARE piece of Pirate Treasure!  This is a  King Charles IV 4 Reales shipwreck coin recovered from the pirate ship "The Black Joke." In 1828 Benito de Soto Aboal was a Galician pirate, and captain of the Burla Negra ( Black Joke ).
Benito was the most notorious of the last generation of pirates to plunder shipping in the Atlantic, one of those arising from the ending of the Napoleonic Wars. His ship, "The Black Joke" sank amidst the treacherous rocks near Cadiz, Spain while trying to out run the Spanish authorities. De Soto survived the sinking of his ship only to  captured by authorities and later was hanged in a public square.
There are numerous documented period accounts of the ships attacked by Benito .
The most infamous episode in
de Soto's
career came on 19 February 1828, when the Burla Negra happened upon the
Morning Star
en route from Ceylon to England. After killing some of the passengers and crew with cannon fire,
de Soto
murdered the captain and took possession of the ship.
De Soto's sunken ship was scavenged from 1828 to 1830. It was only rediscovered in 1991 when a mere 766 pieces of treasure were recovered. This coin is numbered  on the certificate 630 out of that 766.
The majority of the coins recovered were 8 Reale denomination with a very small percentage being 4 Reales of which this coin is making it more scarce from the "Black Joke's" treasure.
The coin is dated 1791 and is completely an authentic coin recovered off the sunk pirate ship and NOT a replica.
