RARE Vintage 1950s Juggle-Head forerunner of Mr Potato Head.
Before there was Mr Potato Head, there was a composition / papier mache (?)
head with magnets and lots of face bits with steel plates, allowing magnetic attachment.
I got this toy in the early 1950s, played with it a lot, yet it remains relatively unscathed 70 years later.
There is a 1’’ hole in the back of the head, since my 10-year old curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to know what was going on inside there, and decided to use a screwdriver to gouge a hole – I’d never seen an exacto-knife back then. The head is about
4.25’’x 3.25’’. and shows its age – its kinda dirty, has the mentioned hole in the back, and a few pencil marks on the back, too. [See photos]
Now that I have the help of ebay and the internet, I discover that this guy is called Juggle-Head, and was made by Langwood Products. I don’t recall ever knowing this name or having the box, but if I had it, it’s been gone for 70 years.
Missing one blue eye, one blue elephant ear, I believe all the rest is here – there are 22 pieces plus the head. The photos show some of the variety of faces that can be built.
