    Description

This beautiful slate mantel was salvaged from an 1885 Italianate style house in Barnesville, Ohio. It is 58.25" wide x 45.5" tall and features a faux marble painted finish, inset art tiles and etched Eastlake detail.
Kensington Art tile rosettes are embedded upon the header and legs of the mantel. The tiles were manufactured by the short-lived Kensington Art Tile Co. of Newport, Kentucky from 1885 to 1895. The hand painted faux marble is applied in subtle tones of red, yellow, and white against a black slate ground. Incised Eastlake style carvings decorate the spaces between the tiles. The shelf is 12" deep with a beveled edge.
Condition: This mantel is in good condition. Minor surface chips and scuffs are present along the edges and corners of some components. The finish is beginning to wear from the trim surrounding the firebox. The overmantel is no longer available, but the firebox surround with summer cover is sold separately.
History: Salvaged from a circa 1885 Italianate style house in Barnesville, Ohio, this mantel, along with other items from the house, are featured on Season 10, Episode 5, of the DIY Network show, "Salvage Dawgs".
