Antique, all original paint, Tole Painted Metal Coal Scuttle Bin And Bucket With Cast Iron Feet featuring Gargoyles. Black with gold scallop painted trim on top and some lattice designs on lower left side of bin. Item is not marked but feet and handle design match Jewett C Vase designs.
Size: 23.25”Tall at back, 15”tall at front, 13” deep, 13”wide including the handles, sits 2” off the floor.
Condition: Generally very good condition but could use a good cleaning - dusty. All 4 feet secure and piece does not wobble - very stable. Interior, removable Coal bucket has a sizable hole in the bottom. main bin base is solid. Some rust spots but no evidence of anything more than surface rust. Paint chips and flaking throughout piece but specifically near base.
I have used these as a trash can, dog food or dog toy container, kindling holder and a recycling bin. They have that patina that adds depth to a room’s design or simply said they are so cool looking. Also with the covered top, unlike baskets or other types of storage bins, you don’t have to look at what’s inside. Would be great next to the fireplace, in the foyer or wherever. It’s black so it matches so many decors. This one is also super simple so it doesn’t scream granny-Victorian.
