    Description

Arabic inscription Al-Sultan Fi Balad Palembang ("Sultan of the city of Palembang") / Blank. 14.5mm, 0.63 grams. Krause -; er & Fils Lith Du Roi #185-187; Zeno 187216 (this coin)
Unpublished variety - fine style without a date, minted 1193 AH (1779 AD). While there are many such coins with a completely corrupt or missing dates, this is a different one - the inscription is "Al-sultan fi bilad Palembang", but there is no Sanat or the date. It does not seem to be a copy, as it is done in a lovely style, with carefully written legends.
Palembang is a city in the Northern area of Sumatra, Indonesia. It was once a Portugues colony, and later the seat of the Sultanate of Palembang. The coins of Palembang were cast in the fashion of the coins from Melaka. They are all rare and difficult to find.
