    Description

It is a privilege as a collector of USS Constitution to offer the rarest to find item from the 1927 restoration of Old Ironsides! At a rather high price of Dollars in 1927, these Live Oak Book Ends were made from material taken from the Original Hull! US Frigate Constitution Keel Laid 1794 Rebuilding 1927. The country rallied to rebuild and Timber, Copper, Rope was sold. On any given day, Book Ends of Melted Ships Copper in shape of Ships Wheel can be found! These are the only of their type offered. I have seen many years go by without another to be available! 2Two other factors add to value and rarity. The first is an original 1927 sticker on one of the pair, that reads " Manchester Yacht Club 15 Foot Class won by " Edith " 1927 ". The ONLY thing that could have improved on that is i have seen only one other pair that have the ships natural, as removed Timber base's. I have seen one or two other's sold at Christie's, both had plained worked cut wood base's! To me ,I collect Timber from the Ship, and i want it as it was in 1794, not a squared cut base. Sure they are more even, and symmetrical , but these are natural! Imagine this great Ship built in 1794, never defeated in battle, Cannonballs bounce off her Hull, and in 1927 the decision is made not to let her perish. The Manchester Yacht Club with Millions of Students and history loving people and companies, purchase these historic naval Souvenirs. Many have been lost to fire over the years, but these remain, just as Constitution does today in Boston! Please inquire with any questions, and enjoy this wonderful auction! Please see my other Maritime items which include a Paul Revere US Marked Spike from the USS New Hampshire. Also Atocha, Shipwreck Treasure Coins, Regards David
