The gas line could be used for the electrical line coming into the device and two brass balls could be removed and pipes could be connected to those square tubes to form the base for a double-sided steampunk lamp. The weight of the entire device would be sufficient to hold a nice size light fixture.
Height about 24 inches. Width about 22 inches. Depth about 12 inches. The cast ? iron / steel appears to be in good shape. One of the finials on the left side - the brass ball - is cracked. The old ceramic inserts in the fireplace are not perfect. One is cracked in two, and one does not appear to be the same as the others. We do not know if the inserts are original, but that should not detract from the beauty of this very old and interesting piece. Inserts are easily replaced. The connections seem to be there; the handle for turning the gas up / down seems to be there as well. It is being sold in as is condition; we believe it can be resurrected.
